A little known fact about the Washington, DC, cherry blossoms is that they overlap with another gorgeous flowering tree – the tulip magnolias. On this chilly, busy morning at peak season for cherry blossoms down by the tidal basin, I noticed these trees at the end of their bloom and they were perfectly positioned with the sun streaming through as backlight.
Petals were all over the ground, and I knew I wanted to bring my couple into this gorgeous light, away from the crowds, for a few photos. So glad I did!
But then, of course, we did get some over by the famous cherry blossom trees. But to be able to have both was a gift from the flowering tree gods.
